Hallowe’en: The last Sunday in October

The labyrinth was raked free of leaves for the Hallowe’en walkers. To think this time last year the mosaic border lunations project was barely underway, consisting of a dozen concrete sections in a yard across the ravine. Now, the pebble mosaic border clearly defines the labyrinth in the raggedy-between-season times.

Moon Fest: The Violin Chapeaux

At the labyrinth on Moon Festival night, the classical music of The Violin Chapeaux filled the ravine and forest. You can hear their music over the crowd:

Moon Fest: The Twilight Lantern Parade

A wonderful festival, with the sky bursting open at the very end. Read about the whole festival at Still Moon Arts. Here’s what took place at the labyrinth.

First, volunteers set up a tent for the musicians and outlined the labyrinth with candles.

Soon the parade arrived, led by the moon, and revellers walked the labyrinth.

Labyrinth in Surrey

There is a public walking labyrinth in Fleetwood Park in Surrey. The project was coordinated by Diana Ng, who has a public health background . She sees the labyrinth as a proactive tool for promoting health and wellness (as quoted in NursingBC, August 2009):

The medical model of health care focuses on the physical symptoms of illness and disease. It deals with the objective, measurable and seen, but does not address inner healing. Inner healing is about our attitudes, beliefs and thoughts on wellness and life in general. Labyrinths complement modern medicine as tools to enhance health and wellness.
